The word ‘Budapest’ came from combining the two cities of Buda and Pest. The two cities were united into a single city in the year 1873 and are connected by Chain Bridge.
Budapest has the oldest underground train system in Europe. The line opened in 1896 in the year when Hungary celebrated its 1000th anniversary, hence the name “Millennium Underground.”
Budapest is home to one of the largest music festivals in the world. Around 400,000 people from all over the world flock to the Sziget Festival every August for a week-long celebration of music!
Budapest, Hungary’s capital, is an Eastern European city that is bisected by the River Danube. The 19th-century Chain Bridge actually connects the three unified cities of Buda and Óbuda on the west bank of the Danube and Pest on the east bank. Budapest has something for everyone – from dramatic history and architecture to healing thermal waters and an incredible music scene. The perfect place for music lovers, Budapest is known for the Hungarian State Opera House. A Neo-Renaissance building that was first opened in 1884. This 1200 seat auditorium is considered to be one of the best in the world for operatic performances. There is also a rich culture of local performers, music festivals, and contemporary artists playing in the city on a regular basis.
Where We Would Stay: Aria Hotel Budapest by Library Hotel Collection
The Aria Hotel Budapest by Library Hotel Collection is a luxury boutique hotel with an exquisite design inspired by music. To complement the musical concept, master designer Zoltan Varro's vision was to simultaneously recreate the rich, lavish atmosphere of a historic Hungarian palace while also embracing visitors in the warmth and comfort of a private residence. Melodious sounds echo through the halls of this music-themed hotel, a reimagined neoclassical building near St.Stephen’s Basilica. Legendary artists from Liszt to Louis Armstrong inspire the 49 rooms and suites — most offering a private balcony. Follow the keyboard tile floor (à la the film Big) to the Music Garden Courtyard with its silk velvet sofas and space-age piano; locals and internationals of all ages mingle in the rooftop bar for tasty cocktails and spectacular views. Experience Harmony Rooftop Yoga and Harmony Spa with heated pool, steam, sauna, and Jacuzzi.
