Phnom Penh is the capital and the largest city in Cambodia. Once known as the “Pearl of Asia”, it was considered one of the loveliest French-built cities in Indochina in the 1920s. Today it is home to the country’s political hub, the nation's center of economic and industrial activities, as well as the center of security, economics and cultural heritage. It is a fascinating city and an excellent base to explore the region.
While there, take a trip to Udong. The old capital of Cambodia offers rewarding snapshots of Cambodian daily life in the countryside and the opportunity to visit the famous silversmiths and the Muslim minority villages of the Cham. The stunning views of the Cambodian province from the hills and the striking pagodas that grace their tops will be a welcoming change from the chaos of Phnom Penh. Takeo, a small and picturesque city is the ideal location for exploring the stunning landscape with its rice plateaus, small villages and friendly people.
The climate in Phnom Penh is tropical, and there are only two seasons: the summer or green season lasts from May to November and the winter or dry season lasts from December to April.
Raffles Hotel Le Royal will take you on a private boat for an amazing sunrise or an astonishing sunset on the Mekong River or Tonle Sap Lake. Let them arrange everything. Whether it be to surprise someone, celebrate a special day or simply enjoy the most of Cambodia. A visit to Phnom Penh should also include a river cruise on the Tonle Sap, the Bassac and the Mekong. The three rivers meet in the capital city and combine in a huge lake, or Chaktomuk, as the locals call it.
Cambodian cuisine is an essential part of the Raffles experience. Combining the best of local culture and cuisine with dishes from around the world, each restaurant and bar has its own unique atmosphere and setting. Restaurant Le Royal, Phnom Penh’s most elegant dining room offers a business lunch and serves Royal Khmer and modern French cuisine each evening. Saturday brunch is not to be missed with free flow French champagne and cocktails. Café Monivong has a relaxed, colonial feel with the option of outdoor terrace dining, and serves extensive breakfast and dinner buffets or an a la carte menu. Elephant Bar is an institution in the city and home of the famous Raffles afternoon tea. In the evenings, enjoy signature cocktails and a wide selection of premium spirits. The balcony and garden are ideal for cocktails under the stars.
