Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is a typical day in the life of a suite? I just opened my doors in June 2016. I am young and have grown up with many people, a wonderful team of professionals who worked hard to raise me.

The architects wanted me to be part of a luxurious resort that resembles a Mallorcan hilltop village but, at the same time, they expected me to stand out. I had to become the brightest, the highest, the largest (150 square meters) and the most beautiful suite in the family. Pressure was on!

Thanks to the builders and the interior designers, I have a limestone skin which gives me a soft ocher tone that contrasts with the burnt lumber color of my wood. Inside, artists decorated my ivory colored walls with large windows, marble details, eye-catching artwork, sculptures and a fireplace – providing it with a homely feeling.

Electricians gave me the power to light up the whole place and merge the new technologies with the comforts of home. I can activate an in-room tablet, a working studio, three large TVs (one integrated with the bathroom’s mirror), high-speed internet and sound systems. I can heat the bathroom floors, the towels, and the whole room when it is cold and cool it when it is hot.

I feel like I have so much to offer but not so many guests have had the chance to meet me yet. I feel a bit lonely and empty. My pastime is to observe. Being on the highest floor gives me the advantage of having the best views. From there I can see the stone-clad houses and cobblestone streets amid the carefully manicured gardens, planted with almond, olive, orange and lemon trees, just to name a few. I admire how the sunlight and the moonlight play over the mountains. By now, I have lived through the four seasons. I felt the bubbly ecstasy of spring, the fields stripped of corn in August, the trees shedding all their leaves during fall and how nature folds back in on itself in winter.

Overall, I am happy with those who have visited me. I have hosted couples, families, CEOs, singers and artists, and business meetings and honeymoons have been celebrated here. Not bad for a newly born suite, right?

  2. What is your biggest indulgence in captivating new guests? When guests book me, the Park Hyatt family pays attention to every detail. Room service brings water bottles, replenishes the minibar with high quality products and premium brands and prepares welcome amenities made by our pastry department. They are available 24 hours for our guests.

The housekeeping team provides all the necessary amenities to make you feel at home. From plush bathrobes and shoes to Bottega Veneta bathroom amenities. They also press garments so that guests can look impeccable.

The Concierge Team is available to design the perfect plan for them. Their first answer to their petitions is never ‘no’. I remember how they arranged a helicopter flight around the island followed by chefs and barmen preparing cocktails and delicious food at the kitchen. We are flexible, we adapt to their needs. We are personal.

  3. Is there a famous name, a particular street or monument that you most identify with? What inspired your style? I belong to a resort protected by Cap Vermell, a mountainous cape on the east coast of Mallorca named after the reddish colors of its cliffs. The caves of Artà are here, just beside the sea. This fascinating labyrinth of underground caverns once provided shelter to hermits and smugglers and has been visited by great authors like Victor Hugo and Jules Verne. I feel that even if I am new, I belong to this story being part of a small village rooted in the local culture. A place that transports you to the past, with no traffic and noise. A small stream runs across the resort, I can see it and hear it every day. Its bed is formed by the reddish rocks carved from Cap Vermell.

I am situated on top of Canaves Oia Suites, in front on a small peninsula on the side of the cliff, which enables us to offer panoramic views and 100% privacy. Being on top of the cliffs also means 0 steps and direct access to our elevator for seamless access to all the hotel's facilities.

6 Bedroom Private Cliff Pool Reserve - Soneva Kiri

Koh Kood, Thailand

Intelligent Luxury

Perched on the cliff overlooking the beautiful Gulf of Siam, the 6 Bedroom Private Cliff Pool Reserve features a waterslide and large swimming pool that wraps around the master bedroom. The villa has multiple outdoor dining and lounging areas, with a dining table that can seat over 8 guests. There is also a gym, multiple spa rooms, a wine cellar, a library and a multi-purpose room. The signature outdoor bathrooms are dazzling. Soneva's villas are inspired by Swedish and Asian design. Co-founder and Creative Director of Soneva, Eva Shivdasani, is from Sweden and this is reflected in the light-colored walls, open areas and minimalist design.

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is a typical day in the life of a suite? My typical day when guests have left consists of a lot of maintenance work. I’m a very big villa, six full bedrooms with a large pool, and I’m situated on a cliff in lush greenery. Soneva Hosts will come in and sweep away dried leaves and make me look pretty; they’ll clean my pool, change the sheets, and give me a deep clean in all of the corners. Sometimes, engineers and project hosts will come in and tweak a few things to make me more sustainable, like attaching sensors to my lights.

  2. What is your biggest indulgence in captivating new guests? It’s hard to choose my favorite indulgence; every guest that comes to stay with me has their personal Mr./Ms. Friday butler, but I also have a waterslide and wine cellar! But my favorite is probably the complimentary chocolate and ice cream room, which has over 60 flavors.

  3. What would be your advice for a first time guest visiting? My advice for first time guests visiting is to embrace our philosophy; no news no shoes. Put away all the electronics and soak in nature, the view and the fresh air. Embrace the slow life, and let everything, your mind, your body and your phone, have a vacation. Also, always remember our intelligent luxury philosophy; that luxury in my villa is not about gold and silver and marble. Intelligent luxury with me means the sustainable materials, the organic food and the rare experiences.

Villa Medici Presidential Suite - Hotel Eden

Rome, Italy

Authentic Romans with a Modern Touch

The spacious Villa Medici Presidential Suite (1,345 square feet) captures Hotel Eden’s opulent Roman style and is the ideal way to immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the Eternal City from the balconies. Designers Bruno Moinard and Claire Betaille of 4BI & Associates have chosen rich hardwood floors, beautiful Venetian fabrics and original furniture created exclusively for Hotel Eden. The suite has a large master bedroom, elegant living area, dining room for up to eight people, and a separate pantry and study. Pamper yourself in the stately master bathroom, inspired by the opulence of Roman baths, with a sweeping view of Rome. The bathroom is decorated in white and gold hues with exquisite Italian glass mosaics, white marble vanities, a walk-in rain shower, a separate bath with shower combination, and luxurious Italian Bottega Veneta toiletries. The Presidential Suite can be connected to a Junior Suite and Prestige Room to create three bedrooms.

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is a typical day in the life of a suite? No day is like the other in a suite, much depends on the company I keep. There might be some very quiet days completely dedicated to relaxation reading a good book lounging on the sofa in the living room, enjoying a warm bath in the luxurious bathtub and an intimate dinner in the dining room/area; productive days spent closing business deals in the study area; energetic days of pillow fights and children's games in every room with milk and cookies before bedtime. In between these moments, I savor the pleasure of some 'me time' and the care and ‘beauty treatments’ of the hotel staff that makes me feel new and fresh every day.

  2. Is there a famous name, a street or monument that you identify with? What inspired your style? My designers, Bruno Moinard and Claire Betaille of 4BI & Associates, in making my new ‘dress’ took inspiration from Rome, its colors, its unique light, its ambiance.  And so here I am:  bright, sophisticated, elegant in a very Italian way, filled with details that call Rome to mind. Take the strongly patterned black and white marbles of my entrance that you find in any ancient building and church or the marble bathtubs that are inspired by the fountains in Piazza Farnese and in Villa Medici and their big basins.

  3. What would be your advice for the first-time guest visiting? Wake up early (I know it is not an easy task with such a comfortable bed) to enjoy the view of Rome from your windows under the magic light of the rising sun (which make also for some fantastic pictures to post on your social accounts), indulge in the delicious, healthy breakfast our executive chef Fabio Ciervo created with a mind to give you all you need to face a day in the city and then set out to explore the center. Walking down the Spanish Steps, just 5 minutes walking from the hotel, around 8:30 am when no one is around but you is quite an experience, and the Trevi Fountain without the crowds is an unforgettable sight.

The Executives Sea Suites & Pool Suites - Finca Cortesin

Málaga, Spain

Andalusian Gem

What impresses me the most are the views from our Executive Suites or Pool Suites. The lush gardens that surround us with the Mediterranean Sea in the background are remarkable. The serenity, the great spaces, the tranquility, the fragrance of our gardens and the singing of the birds are perceptions that our guests enjoy from the terraces of our suites. Truly unforgettable!

Every one of these individually designed suites comes with breathtaking views of the Andalusian Coast. The total living space from 77 square meters to 100 square meters of bed and living/dining room combines the satisfying feeling of being at home while being spoiled by luxury. All of them come with balconies that will allow you to further enjoy Finca Cortesin’s stunning location facing the Mediterranean Sea.

The decoration of the Hotel’s suites is inspired by the great summer mansions of the Mediterranean. Made with the highest quality of fabrics and furniture, trying to make every room different with their own personality. The mixture of color and furniture in our rooms was created for a select type of customer, a cultured traveler who would feel as though they are experiencing something different each time they return to the hotel.

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What was your favorite feedback or comment received from past guests? One of the nicest comments left from one former guest was," Excellent hotel with fantastic staff." The guest mentioned that he and his family had stayed in Marbella many times and on their last visit a friend recommended Finca Cortesin. The friend was right; it was an amazing experience from the moment they checked in. The personalized service received by every member of the staff, its fabulous facilities such as the Spa, outdoor pools, the comfortable suite and their excellent gastronomy. They look forward to their next stay already!

  2. Is there a famous name, a particular street or monument that you most identify with? What inspired your style? The hotel’s fresh but grand design is inspired by traditional Andalucian architecture, the famous Hacienda’s, and gives every area a big, bright and luxuriously spacious feel that is so rare in Europe. Outside, design features include white walls, shady arcades and courtyards.

Designed by the architects Roger Torras and Ignacio Sierra, the hotel boasts some of the best design talent in Europe including the landscape architect Gerald Huggan, and revered interior designer Duarte Pinto Coelho who has used beautiful continental antiques in the guest areas, and sisters Ana and Christina Calderón who are responsible for the understated but exceptional interior design of the rooms. Beautiful features include antique terracotta floors and old wooden doors which have been salvaged from European castles and restored.

The vision: Make it so that our guests do not have to worry about anything during their stay. Authenticity!!!

  3. What is your suite motto? Passion and authenticity are my favorite words in the hospitality business.

The Presidential Suite - Le Meurice

Paris, France

A Victorious Visit to Versailles

Located on the Hotel’s first floor, facing the Tuileries Garden, the Presidential Suite is inspired by the formal Louis XVI style, and furnished with one-of-a-kind masterpieces, with parquet floors of aged woods and rugs by Braquenié created with special motifs just for me. It offers a “taste of Versailles”, and hosted the King Alphonse XII, and then Salvador Dalí for over three decades. The fabrics come from the famous factory of Charles Jouffre, in the city of Lyon. Presidents and kings have always appreciated these suites; this is the reason why we call it the “Presidential Suite”.

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What was your favorite feedback or comment received from past guests? The guests appreciate my spectacular style inspired by Versailles. They are always enthralled when they discover me for the first time! I offer them a complete change of scene, a true 18th century experience! What guests also really appreciate is my breathtaking view on the Tuileries Garden.

  2. What is your biggest indulgence in captivating new guests?  As I said, new guests are captivated by my style and my view on the Tuileries garden. The localization in the heart of Paris in one of my biggest advantages. I’m ideally located for a range of activities, whether you’re after fine dining and shopping or simply want to explore the city of romance and culture. On top of this, I can connect to another Presidential Suite and Junior Suite to form a private apartment of 3,000 square feet, all overlooking the beautiful Tuileries garden.

  3. Is there a famous name, a particular street or monument that you most identify with? What inspired your style? Salvador Dalí , the surrealist painter. I welcomed him, and his muse Gala for 30 years and he realized here some of his paintings, and organized some happenings from my balcony!  What wonderful memories.

The St. Regis Villa - The St. Regis Mauritius Resort

Blissful Seduction

The St. Regis Villa is the most seductive beach villa in Mauritius and is so much more than an ideal tropical getaway. It is a home away from home. The 1659 square meter Villa features four exquisitely appointed bedrooms, all with their own spacious ocean-facing terrace.  The Villa’s private entrance opens out into a spectacular and elegantly furnished living accommodation, including a dining area, two lounges, office, infinity pool and direct access to 143 meters of beach front.  A dedicated service team, including a Villa Manager, St. Regis Butler and a private chef, are all there to cater to your every whim. Everything is possible at Mauritius’ largest and most private villa address.

The Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is a typical day like in the life of a suite? It is bittersweet for me when guests check-out. After a few days of relaxing and enjoying each other’s company – I hate to see them go. However, I know that the team has to get me ready for the next group of friends or family to arrive. It is not an easy task, but the dedicated Villa team knows exactly what to do; refreshing all the rooms, cleaning the pools and kitchen, bringing fresh flowers, et al. They also like to put Jaime Cullum’s CD on when they are cleaning, that is fun! When the next guests arrive – the expression on their face when they walk in is priceless. “Ohs and Ahs”, exploring all the rooms, then the realization of how big the Villa is, hits them – “This is all ours?” Yes – it is!

  2. Is there a famous name, a particular street or monument that you most identify with? What inspired your style? I can’t say there is just one person, place or thing that I identify with. It would have to be a myriad of things! The lava rock structure brings to mind the temples in Bali. The rich, black stone coming together as a foundation. As all the rooms (living and dining rooms included) face the lagoon and have folding glass doors. When fully open, there are no “walls” or barriers between you and the sound of the lapping waves, as if you are anchored at sea, on a Riva Yacht.

Sitting in the dining room with a sumptuous dish on the table – it could easily be mistaken for a Michelin Star restaurant in Europe, but with an infinity pool & sunset in the forefront. A glass of Veuve Clicquot in hand, naturally.

The interior design is less colonial style than the rest of the Resort, and more classic contemporary. If modern day Chanel joined forces with vintage Diane von Furstenburg to outfit a beachfront retreat, you would find our villa. There isn’t a place I identify with – it is only Mauritius!

  3. Who was your all-time favorite guest? I had a lovely family whose matriarch was celebrating a milestone birthday. The husband had discretely made arrangements with the Butler. It started during one of our legendary sunsets with our sabrage ritual and champagne at the outdoor bar. He requested an acoustic trio playing by the pool. An 8-course dinner was on order, each dish meticulously prepared and presented. Then just before the cake came out, the husband gave a heartfelt speech and voila - fireworks lit the sky just in front us! Everyone was enjoying themselves so much that they started dancing the dining room. (The band was enjoying themselves as well!) You could not have scripted this any better. An unforgettable time for all!

The Pompadour Suite - Le Meurice

Paris, France

Classical Contemporary

Launched in July 2016, this suite is a tribute to the iconic Madame de Pompadour, Patron of the arts, symbol of femininity and passion at the 18th century. The Pompadour Suite is the perfect blend of classic and modern and incorporates intuitive automation and state-of-the-art technology to provide guests with maximum comfort. The sumptuous décor, inspired by the 18th century, has been designed by Charles Jouffre, in the style of a royal residence. The design involved several highly regarded artisans, with expertise as distinguished as silk by Prelle, trimmings by Declercq and chandeliers by Lucien Gau. Le Salon, the suite’s opening act, is the epitome of the 18th century: symmetry, solid oak Versailles parquet, Regency-style wood paneling, hidden doors, Louis XV fireplace, cornices, chandeliers and rich trimmings. The invisible technology delivers the ultimate in modern comfort: televisions are concealed behind reproductions of paintings, switches control lighting with maximum precision, USB ports are hidden in the sofa armrests, and complete darkness can be achieved with a remote control.

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is a typical day in the life of a suite? Like Madame de Pompadour, I’m very “coquette” and I like being as beautiful as possible! All the staff, and especially the housekeeping, are kind to me and take care of me every day. Between a check-out and a new check-in, ballets of room maids are busy cleaning me up. The beautiful carpet in my living room is carefully brushed, as is my sofa, and the cushions designed by Charles Jouffre are rearranged correctly. The beds are prepared with a lot of attention, and fresh flowers are set up.

  2. What is your biggest indulgence in captivating new guests?  I would say that my first advantage is my location in the heart of Paris. Did you know that I am just a few minutes’ walk from the Place Vendôme and the Louvres museum? Furthermore, I am captivating because I have a hidden treasure: an invisible technology. The designers who created me drew inspiration from a jewelry technique, which consists of hiding a piece’s setting to show only the sparkle of its precious stones, when installing invisible yet omnipresent, state-of-the-art technology. I am unique because I offer a reinterpretation of eras, styles, and expertise to showcase timeless elegance while delivering the ultimate in modern comfort.

  3. What would be your advice for a first-time guest visiting? Ask one of our Guest Relations managers to talk about my history and to show you my little secrets…

  1. What was your favorite feedback or comment received from past guests? It was this, left in a hand-written note to Housekeeping: “Thank you for bringing me back to life.”

  2. How would you like to be remembered? I’d like to be remembered as the place where you finally were able to let your smartphone run out of battery, where you enjoyed the sunshine and tropical breezes on your face, where you were caressed by the warm smiles of my caring staff, and where your heart and senses were all touched by new pleasures. That’s why I am here – to help my guests find joy.

  3. Who was your all-time favorite guest? Well, I can’t divulge names -- but it was a famous basketball player who had come to the resort for his wedding. The guest forgot to pack his dress shoes and discovered it just moments before the ceremony was to begin. I sent out an alert to all of my suite team, and within a couple of minutes, we had tracked down a very tall employee with the same shoe size – and a pair of dress shoes sitting in his closet at home. Our team member dashed to his place, grabbed the shoes and brought them up to the suite for the VIP guest to wear for the wedding, shining the shoes while he was running across the resort grounds.

Moments later, the wedding ceremony proceeded beautifully, and our basketball player was a vision in his “something borrowed” shoes. The guest was already a hero to all of us, and we were honored at the very kind thank you note which he left for us in the suite, bringing tears to all of our eyes. It was a special, happy day for many people, and it made us all very proud to be a suite.

The study, drawing room and dressing room provide additional space to relax, and the house has a picturesque garden with a tranquil stream and spectacular countryside views.

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is a typical day in the life of a suite? Every day I say good morning to our resident swans - Pukka and Chukka - that live in the lake in front of me. Before any guests arrive, our expert housekeeping team at Coworth Park runs rigorous inspections from room to room to ensure everything is in perfect shape. My fireplace in the living room may be lit in the cooler months to ensure the rooms are all snug and cozy, while in the summer the terrace will be all prepared for al fresco dining. My favorite past time is watching the exciting high-goal polo tournaments from my windows come May.

  2. What would be your advice for a first-time guest visiting? Enjoy long walks in the Berkshire countryside and wander the paths amongst the wildflower meadow during the spring and summer months. Don’t forget to explore the local area as we are located moments away from the Ascot Royal Mile and Windsor Great Park. Our new bike fleet menu gives you the chance to choose from riding tandem, atop a Penny Farthing or take the children in a Babboe Cargo around our country estate in style while cycling around the grounds. Indulge in delicious British countryside cooking from our executive chef Adam Smith. Guests can taste the finest in British ingredients and flavors from our specially created Best of British menu or appreciate one of our elegant wine dinners at Restaurant Coworth Park in collaboration with our preferred wine partners. Don’t forget to bring your riding boots and meet our horses for a gentle hack or book a polo lesson with Guards Polo Academy manager and professional polo player, Ebe Sievwright. For a quintessential British treat, try our delicious afternoon tea featuring amazing creations by our head pastry chef Lucy Jones.

  3. Is there a famous name, a particular street or monument that you most identify with? What inspired your style? My heritage and character has been influenced by the personality of my distinguished owners over time. Dating from 1776, my estate has passed through the hands of a long list of Lords and Ladies including the Earl of Derby who owned the estate for the early half of the 19th century. My proximity to Windsor Great Park and the Royal Estate influences my style and adds to my eccentricity.

Deluxe Corner Suite - Baur au Lac

Zurich, Switzerland

The Best of Both Worlds

The rooms' refined eclectic style is characterized by timeless design. Exquisite art deco artifacts skillfully contrast with French period furniture and modern elements using only the highest quality materials. With a masterful eye for design, the interior designer Frédéric d’Haufayt has given this suite an elegance all its own. Great emphasis was laid on spaciousness and all furniture and lighting features are custom-made in France, Belgium, England, and Germany. Each item was hand-selected with an unfailing sense of style. While offering the ultimate in comfort, luxury, and privacy, the suite has been equipped with every, yet hardly noticeable technical refinement. The large, luxuriously appointed marble bathroom with separate shower and toilet, heated floor and daylight match up to the highest demands of comfort, design, and equipment.

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is a typical day in the life of a suite? As soon as a guest leaves me, I feel a little bit sad, as I got used to their voice, steps, and scent. One day my guest is on a business trip and I barely see them, and right after I might have a big family staying with me. My duty is to make everyone feel at home. After check-out, I am always confused and do not really know what is coming next, but luckily I have the most dedicated staff on earth, which newly decorates me and aligns everything! They pamper me! No detail is too small. Thanks to them, I get back on my feet quite quickly and feel fresh and happy to welcome my next guest.

  2. What was your favorite feedback or comment received from past guests? My favorite feedback until now has been that I have a most wonderful view of the private park, lake, Alps, and canal. As my name indicates, I am located in one of the corners and that is why you can enjoy breathtaking views. Personally, I would say I have the best view in the entire Baur au Lac. You can compare it to have the best seats in the theater.

  3. What would be your advice for a first-time guest visiting? Zurich is a city which is rich in cultural highlights. It is one of the leading art trading cities in the world with more than 50 museums and over 100 galleries. The Opera House, Tonhalle Orchestra (concert hall orchestra), as well as the Schauspielhaus Zurich (municipal theater), provide a culture of the highest standards. If you have the chance, do not miss a visit to at least one of them during your stay.

All major cultural and tourist attractions are within walking distance from the Baur au Lac. The beautiful park along the lake and
Zurich's old town are also within easy walking distance and provide charming routes for joggers and walkers. Furthermore, the hotel is just a stone's throw from the Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world’s most famous luxury shopping streets. There is a little bit for everyone in Zurich. Last but not least, my goal as a suite is to complement your stay with the highest comfort, whether you come for business or leisure.

The suite also offers a separate entrance to the private kitchen, ideal for entertaining and for lavish informal business meetings accompanied by a meal. A premium “wet bar” is offered to the suite occupants, and a dedicated butler can be arranged.

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is your biggest indulgence in captivating new guests? Our personalized amenities are tailor made to suit the preferences and purposes of each guest. An embroidered doggy bed was present in the suite for the arrival of a prominent artist who traveled with her pet; a hand-crafted cake with the logo of a luxurious vehicle was available for the launch of a new model of car which took place in the suite. Daily, the suite meets guests with photos of loved ones arranged by our Guest Services department, freshly picked flowers for a bespoke occasion and creative food creations from a dedicated team of pastry chefs.

Some other, more routine amenities include complimentary pick up from the airport by the hotel limousine, complimentary WiFi, phone calls world-wide, complimentary garment pressing for 5 items, complimentary water, 24-hour room service, 24-hour butler service (on request), a welcome amenity made by our pastry department and bathroom amenities that were custom made for The Ritz-Carlton by Asprey.

  2. Is there a famous name, a particular street or monument that you most identify with? What inspired your style? The hotel interior is inspired by the luxurious marina lifestyle, the surrounding nature and the mesmerizing Mediterranean horizon. We attempted to bring the nature indoors in a harmonic blend of pastel shades of gold and blue, together with the wooden decks.

The suite design is modern and fresh; it features rotating works of art from Israel’s renowned masters and exhibits a stunning selection of paintings and sculptures from upcoming local talent.

Our commitment to preserving the environment is evident in the green technological advancements of the building: the decks in the balcony are made of recycled re-compounded rice, while the cooling or the air in the rooms is done using a ventilation machine that goes 330 feet into the water and uses sea water to power the air conditioning.

  3. Who was your all-time favorite guest? For a hotel that is now entering its fourth year of operation, we have quite a few guests who return to our hotel regularly. On our anniversary, we presented these guests with their own business cards that stated, "Ambassador of The Ritz-Carlton, Herzliya." These are our Ambassadors; however, all our guests are our favorites.

Lounge outdoors in my oversized daybed next to the fire pit, or take a dip in my infinity pool and hot tub.

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is a typical day in the life of a suite? As soon as a guest checks out, the entire space gets a rub-a-dub. Our housekeeping, pool and beach and engineering teams work their magic to beautify me with a thorough inside-out cleaning that you would expect of a luxury resort. Once that is settled, all of the complimentary kitchen staples and generous starter bar, consisting of beer, wine, spirits, and mixers, are completely replenished for the next guest to enjoy.

  2. Is there a famous name, a particular street or monument that you most identify with? What inspired your style? Of course, my location on Grace Bay Beach defines me – it’s been voted the world’s best beach time and time again. In general, Turks & Caicos Islands is my source of inspiration for its natural beauty and tropical surroundings. I’ve been decorated by celebrity interior designer Thom Filicia who chose a color palette that combines serene, natural shades with vibrant pops of Caribbean-inspired color and accessorized with pieces that emphasize my closeness to white sand beaches and clear blue waters.

  3. Who was your all-time favorite guest? I never kiss and tell, because my celebrity guests do truly love me for my discretion. I can tell you that—for whatever reason—Grammy winners love me! I occasionally dabble in Emmy winners, too.

Royal Suite - Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands

The Rise of the Dutch Golden Age

Walk into a genuine piece of Amsterdam history, in former homes of famous Dutch Admirals dating back to the 17th century. Timeless elegance with cream-colored walls, wooden ceiling beams, warm autumn colors and a subtle mix of classic and contemporary furnishings; an elegant and soothing atmosphere in which to enjoy privacy, refinement and absolute comfort. The well-appointed Royal Suite is located on the third floor of a former canal house and overlooks the hotel’s opulent courtyard. Contemporary design combined with monumental wood beamed ceilings create a historical home away from home atmosphere. Featuring a magnificent king-size bedroom with an upstairs private balcony, and a spacious bathroom fraught with Hermès amenities. A living room with lounge and dining area adjacent to a small library with a working desk create the perfect setting for a business or leisure stay. Approximate size: 100 square meters / 1076 square feet.

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What would be your advice for a first-time guest visiting? One of my favorite suggestions is to let the Butler or Concierge take interested guests along for a bike ride or a stroll in the surroundings. Accompanying them to ‘De Drie Fleschjes’, the oldest tasting venue of Amsterdam, is my favorite. Telling guests the history of one of our legendary visitors, Michiel de Ruyter, who also was present during the opening of this typical Dutch cafe in 1650, is really stepping back in time. The hotel has its own ‘The Grand Jenever Barrel’ including the typical jenever glasses, so to raise the glass with the guests and let them taste a unique piece of Amsterdam is an experience they will never forget!

  2. How would you like to be remembered? Since 1578 we have welcomed celebrated authors, royals, ambassadors and heads of state. From 15th-century convent to royal lodgings to Dutch Admiralty headquarters to the city hall of Amsterdam. Guests staying with me will experience five-star luxury in a unique “Amsterdam” ambiance, furnished with French elegance and grandeur.

  3. Who was your all-time favorite guest? If only walls could talk…they would surely have extraordinary tales to tell. Of 16th century princes and queens on diplomatic missions, and the 17th century admirals commanding launches for distant lands. Not to mention stories of eager artists and craftsmen, pursuing a vision as they decorated Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam. The majestic Grand, overflowing with history but vibrantly modern. A supreme hotel experience for guests from oceans away, or some just across the canal.

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is a typical day in the life of a suite? Every morning a team of dedicated housekeepers come and visit and make sure I am in the most perfect form for a guest arriving for the day. I have the Front Office management team visit me to lovingly place a key on my desk table for the family or guests that will be visiting me, they are joined by my dedicated Butler who makes sure that all of the little goodies that my guests will be receiving are in the suite. They take one final walk through to make sure that I am perfectly laid out for the next guest I will be hosting. From there I eagerly await the arrival of my guests.

  2. What would be your advice for a first time guest visiting? Take in the views! The views from my lounge at sunset or from the Olive Bar are amazing! Johannesburg is truly a cultural hot spot, so I recommend a tour and a visit to the Maboneng precinct.

  3. How would you like to be remembered? I would like to be remembered as the home for President Nelson Mandela while he edited his book ‘Long Walk to Freedom.’

Thomas Jefferson Suite - The Jefferson, Washington, DC

Washington, District of Columbia

Following the Footsteps of the Founding Father

When guests walk in the first thing they remark upon is how beautifully designed the Thomas Jefferson Suite is. The ownership of The Jefferson makes sure that the suite is always well taken care of so it’s frequently repainted, reupholstered and ready to welcome anyone from families to heads of state. They had a big influence in the design, making sure that it was elegant enough, but still feel homey and comfortable. The suite’s most unique feature is probably the views. You can see the White House and the Washington Monument from the living room! The amenities include: complimentary WiFi, phone calls worldwide, complimentary garment pressing for up to 5 items, complimentary water, 24-hour room service, 24-hour butler service, a welcome amenity made by our pastry department and bathroom amenities that were custom made for The Jefferson by Red Flower. Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is a typical day in the life of a suite? A typical day; I’m so glad you asked! It’s really difficult being the largest, most luxurious suite at The Jefferson. At 1,900 square feet on the highest floor; being the Presidential Suite is hard work! Well, first off, I take a big stretch; even though we’ve only been open since 2009, The Jefferson has lived on the corner of 16th and M St, since 1923 so it’s important to keep my historic bones moving. Then I wait for my hair and makeup team, also known as Housekeeping. There are a lot of members of my glam squad that are responsible for making sure I stay in tip-top shape! I’m deep cleaned; any of my corners that may have gotten chipped are repainted, by Engineering. My kitchen, which is equipped with Wolf appliances is stocked with anything that the incoming guest needs & anything they have specifically requested by the Food & Beverage department and lastly, the Executive Housekeeper comes in and gives me one last look before I’m camera ready.

  2. What was your favorite feedback or comment received from past guests? How comfortable I am and how much I feel like home. My living room has a fireplace and a hidden TV so it’s ideal for meetings or a gathering of friends and family. There’s a dining room table that seats 10 so guests don’t have to leave the comfort of their room to dine. Did I tell you about my bed? I didn’t? WELL! My bed is a custom made California King; made just for me as are the linens. My bathroom is huge and features a soaking tub and a TV in the mirror (all of our rooms have this feature) so you can luxuriate in the tub while catching up on current events.

If a guest would like to work out, there is also a small fitness area with free weights, mats and an elliptical trainer so they can get in their daily steps all without having to leave me!

  3. What is your biggest indulgence in captivating new guests? Well, being part of the most awarded hotel in Washington, DC doesn’t hurt. Neither does our location. Did you know that I am just four blocks from the White House and the views from me are insane! You can see the White House, the Washington Monument and can even get a glimpse of the planes taking off from Reagan National Airport, which is just 5 miles away from the hotel. Some of my amenities include, complimentary WiFi, phone calls world-wide, complimentary garment pressing for 5 items, complimentary water (we bottle our own), 24-hour room service, 24-hour butler service, a welcome amenity made by our pastry department and bathroom amenities that were custom made for The Jefferson by Red Flower. Our signature scent is called Monticello Grove and features botanicals that one would have found in Jefferson’s beloved Monticello.

  4. Is there a famous name, a particular street or monument that you most identify with? What inspired your style? Jefferson, of course! The hotel pays homage to Jefferson with small touches at every turn. We have Jefferson signed documents that span his political career in our lobby and our Book Room, which is open for guests and filled with volumes of books that Jefferson would have read during his time. In Plume, our Michelin-starred restaurant, we feature one of the largest collections of Madeira, a fortified wine that was used to toast the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which Jefferson helped write. Some of our vintages Jefferson could have enjoyed in his lifetime, our oldest currently dates to 1720!

  5. What sets you apart from other suites in this city? Well, since this is Washington, DC there are lots of other lovely suites in the city; so many to choose from! I think what sets me apart from other suites is how at home people feel when they step into my foyer.

  6. What would be your advice for a first time guest visiting? Don’t jump on my bed! Just kidding! Talk to our staff about some of the amazing things there are to see in the city. We have some of the most welcoming employees in town from Ahmed at the door to Chris, our Les Clef D’or concierge and a native Washingtonian. Everyone here wants to make sure that our guests have a one of a kind DC experience. Also, bring sneakers. DC is a big walking city and we are within walking distance to many of the city’s must-see neighborhoods including Dupont Circle, Logan Circle, the 14th street corridor and the National Mall where many of our famed museums reside.

  7. How would you like to be remembered? As Jefferson once said, “Traveling is good for your health and necessary for your amusement.” I hope that people will always travel to Washington, DC to learn about this historic city and that they’ll always think of The Jefferson as their home away from home.

  8. What is your suite motto? In the words of my namesake, “You shall find me with a room, a bed and a plate with a hearty welcome.” Thomas Jefferson wrote that in a letter to James Monroe in 1784 and it still holds true today. Sure, The Jefferson, DC is a luxury, boutique hotel with all of the modern amenities, but at the end of the day, we really just want to be warm and welcoming to all of our guests and provide them with all of the essentials they’ll need for a great visit including excellent customer service.

  9. Who was your all-time favorite guest? Now, now…we don’t play favorites here at The Jefferson. All of our guests are our favorites; it’s why we’re all here!

Suite Talk Q&A

  1. What is the typical day in the life of a suite? I have a very busy life exactly like my wonderful team who takes such good care of me. From the minute a guest leaves, the housekeeping equip is ready to give me a “full bath”, dress me up and spray me with an inviting fragrance. My outfit is completed with wonderful flower arrangements signed by our in-house florist.  After a final inspection I am ready for the new guest….how glamorous it is to be a Presidential suite!

  2. What was your favorite feedback or comment received from past guests? A lovely young honeymoon couple once stayed with me and fell so much in love with my contemporary style, combined with comfort and individual flair, that they decided to design their new house exactly like me. So, I now have a “twin sister” in California!

  3. Is there a famous, a particular street or monument that you most identify with? From one side of my terrace, guests get a wonderful view on Via Margutta, a picturesque narrow street that became popular after the film “Roman Holiday” and developed into an exclusive neighborhood, where various famous people have lived, such as film director Federico Fellini. Via Margutta originally was home to modest craftsmen, workshops and stables, but now hosts many art galleries and fashionable restaurants.
